Characterful Illustrations
A large part of what I have been blessed to do over the course of my career as an illustrator has been character based work for brands and campaigns.
I would say this kind of work has been easily about 80% of the illustrative commissions I have gotten over the years.
Bottom of the list has been editorial illustration surprisingly. Editorial work I had assumed would be my consistent bread and butter, but to be honest I’ve barely broken into that avenue of work … Never mind ;)
Whether it’s been representing a new lease of life for retired folk with The Joy Club, or depicting burping unicorn’s for real estate ad-tech guru’s Audience Town, I am throughly enjoying this side of my creative career.
Below are two new illustrative, character based projects I have worked on recently.
Jac The App
Commissioned by James and Josh of James Edgar Studio, I was tasked with developing the character of Jac for an app targeting DIY dummies (like me) find a trusted handy-man. The resulting meditative, house shaped, little dude above aims to create a sense of peace of mind and reassurance for the services the app provides.
Plymouth Citybus & the Go Explorers
As part of Brand Biscuit Studio I recently collaborated with Plymouth Citybus on their latest family summer campaign called "Go Explorers".
Central to the campaign are a band of cute illustrated animal characters with each character representing a unique aspect of Plymouth's diverse environments which is covered by the Citybus network.
Using cute, bold and friendly characters like this for the campaign aims to attract kids to explore the delights of Plymouth by bus.
